Permissions
We are eager to
see the ideas of our authors reach as broad an audience as possible,
so we try to make it easy to obtain permission to distribute or reproduce
articles or excerpts. Our policies encourage sharing within the bounds
of the copyright regulations while preserving the authors’ right
to compensation. The following guidelines pertain to the most frequently
requested scenarios:
Distributing
copies of an article from The Systems Thinker
You may
not distribute electronic copies of an article, but you may distribute
paper copies. You must first own a copy of the article. Then you may
purchase rights through the Pegasus shopping cart. For your convenience,
the link to purchase rights to make paper copies appears at the end
of the description of every PDF article that is for sale in the Pegasus
shopping cart. The charge is $2.50 per copy.
Republishing
an article from The Systems Thinker in your own publication
If you wish to republish an article from the newsletter—in whole
or in part—in your own publication, the customary charge is $250.
We also require that you include appropriate citation and send us a
copy of the reproduction, where it appears in your publication.
Posting
an article from The Systems Thinker on your website
If you wish to post an article from the newsletter—in whole or
in part—on your own web site, the customary charge is $500. We
also require you to advise us of the URL of the posted material and
include appropriate citation and reciprocal hyperlink.
Site
license access
If you are interested in regularly making articles available to your
entire organization, you might consider obtaining a site license subscription.
An organizational site license is an agreement that entitles an organization
to shared access of the newsletter in PDF format on ONE Intranet by
an unlimited number of employees. The cost of a site license is $1,000
per year (less than the cost of 10 individual subscriptions). If your
organization does not permit PDF files to be posted on your intranet,
another option is for your staff to view each issue on The Systems
Thinker web site.
Posting
an article on an access-restricted course web site
The same restrictions apply as when distributing paper copies of an
article. You must first own a copy of the article. Then you may purchase
rights for distribution based on the number of students who will be
viewing the article. The charge is $2.50 per course attendee. If you
are an educational organization a 20% discount may apply. The following
additional restrictions apply:
- You must expire
the article at the end of the course.
- The course site
must be password protected.
- We ask that you
put a link to our web site on the course site.
Please contact our permissions
department or call 781-398-9700 with any questions or to arrange
payment for a permitted use.
